The iron particles in any loosely flowing material can be trapped with the help of a plate magnate. These magnets are positioned above the belts carrying the material and other ducts and spouts etc. Their size varies from six to forty eight inches in width. They are made up of stainless steel that is welded and are watertight for use with sanitary items. They are used atop the chutes, pulleys and conveyor belts for low volume. The standard plate magnet is 1 inch thick and the heavy duty is 1.5 inches in thickness, offering more depth and length of magnetic pull. These heavy duty magnets are available in single or double gap plates. For ease of cleaning these plates are hinged.

Some rare earth metals are used to make these plates. Samarium Cobalt does not get demagnetized easily. Iron boron and Neodymium are metals in powder form that are fused together by when sintered in presence of magnetic field. These uncommon earth magnets are powerful but expensive and are a major cause for curtailment of hard drives.

Plate magnets are also known as Ceramic magnets or Strontium Ferrite largely. Due to the cheap, easily available raw material these magnets are made out of, they are very cost effective. These plate magnets can be operated in moderate heat and are corrosion resistant. They are mostly imported from China in a large number.

Suspended magnets are designed according to the width of the common belts and can pull iron particles at a distance of nine inches with a half pound pull. In spite of being made from rare earth magnets, they are cheap and are mostly used for use with a low product density.

Non magnetic material and magnetic alloys are used to comprise magnetic assemblies. The hardness of this magnetic alloy does not allow for addition of simple features to it. Brittle magnetic material is restricted by non magnetic material from mechanical stresses that increases the alloy's overall magnetic strength.

Before investing in plate magnets there are many factors to be considered, like; the holding force of the plates, field strength and operating temperature of light and heavy duty plates. The area that the plates cover should also be considered. The cost and operational environment are key factors while purchasing plate magnets. Check whether the operating area is acidic, alkaline or wet. With the availability of many types of plate magnets in the market today, you can find the one you need with some research and planning. Compare the prices and the quality of these plates before making any decision. Look for available options on online stores that sell these plate magnets and the stores in the area where your business is based.
